Doleh Tu Prison
Doleh Tu detention camp, a building at zero border point of Sardasht county belonging to Democratic Party of Iran, which with coordination of this party on 7 May 1981 was bombed by fighters of Iraqi Baath regime and hostages present in it were martyred.
The Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan which in early months of victory of Islamic Revolution started armed struggle with Islamic Republic, to blackmail government and families of hostages, create fear among native people of region, took supporters of Islamic system hostage and took them to areas under its control and kept them in hostage places.[1]
Doleh Tu detention camp was one of hostage places of Democrat Party. This place was originally a stable located in Doleh Tu village northwest of Sardasht at zero border point of Iran and Iraq adjacent to Alvatan, Mirabad and Mazraeh villages. This detention camp had 8 ten-meter rooms and in each room 30 persons were kept.[2]
Members of Jihad-e Sazandegi Organization, IRGC, Army of Islamic Republic of Iran, dissident members of Democrat Party and some Iraqi citizens formed hostages of this detention camp.[3]
Guards of this prison included members of counter-revolutionary groups, fugitive monarchists and members of Democrat Party; Iraj Soltani (one of pilots of Imperial Army) and nephew of Abdolrahman Qasemlou (Secretary General of Democrat Party) known as Sarvan Omid were also among guards of this detention camp.[4]
Nutrition of hostages in each day and night was one piece of bread and one bowl of chickpea water. Ceiling height of detention camp was very short, dirty and damp and mice and lice existed in it. Unsuitable hygienic conditions and lack of bath caused disease among hostages. Every day also for collecting firewood and lighting fire for food pot, hostages were forced to labor.[5]
Some hostages of Doleh Tu were executed after so-called trial by Judicial Unit of Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan and Mamosta Goran one of judicial representatives of Democrat Party.[6]
In May 1981, Jalil Gadani, Fattah Kaviani and Iraj Soltani representing Democrat Party and Abdollah Mohtadi and Ebrahim Alizadeh from Komala met Colonel Ayar Abdolreza and Rashid Saleh in Iraqi Kirkuk Estekhbarat office and agreed on bombing of Doleh Tu detention camp by Iraq.[7]
At 10 AM on 7 May 1981, when hostages had returned from forced labor and were airing in yard, they were led into rooms by guards whose number had decreased from 50 to 12, and minutes later Doleh Tu detention camp was bombed by two Iraqi fighters.[8] According to survivors of tragedy, guards to guide pilots had installed a very large red flag above detention camp and Democrat Party and Komala forces targeted survivors from heights. In this incident 130 persons were martyred and wounded. Democrat Party and Komala against various global reactions denied their cooperation with Iraq in this tragedy and held a memorial ceremony for martyrs.[9]
After bombing, some bodies of hostages were delivered to Iranian government officials and some were buried in same place. Surviving hostages were also transferred to another place in Alvatan.[10]
In 2024, bodies of some martyrs of Doleh Tu detention camp were recovered and funeraled by Committee for Search of Missing Persons of General Staff of Armed Forces.[11]
